In 2010 the European Commission intended to organize this conference but the event was postponed due to events related to the volcanic eruption. The event took place on January 26, 2011 and aimed to discuss how safety management in civil aviation will move from a reactive system to a proactive system based on safety management techniques whose effectiveness has been proven. Issues related to the implementation of safety management systems at national and European level were also addressed, as well as the exchange of data and the analysis of safety data in support of risk analysis processes at European level.

 

The agenda of the conference included presentations related to:

 

    Aspects encountered in the implementation of the National Security Programs

 

    EUROCONTROL's experience in safety management at European level

 

    Airlines' experience in safety management and interaction with EUROCONTROL's SAFER system

 

    Exchange of safety data outside national borders;

 

    Aerodrome safety management systems

 

    The importance of safety culture

 

    The industry's view of safety data and the distribution of critical safety information

 

This Conference was attended by representatives of civil aviation authorities from EU and neighboring countries, airlines, airports, air navigation service providers and maintenance organizations, trade unions and professional associations. Romania was represented by Mr. Catalin RADU, General Manager, General Directorate of Infrastructure and Air Transport within MTI, as speaker and Mrs. Claudia VÎRLAN, General Manager, Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority.
