Present European Developments in the Fields of Civil Aviation Safety

EUROPEAN STRATEGIC SAFETY INITIATIVE (ESSI) was launched in April 2006 as the successor to the Joint Aviation Authorities safety initiative JSSI. ESSI is a voluntary partnership in the field of civil aviation safety in Europe, with private funding, being facilitated by the European Agency for Aviation Safety (EASA).

http://www.easa.eu.int/essi/

ESSI brings together participants from ECAC States and EASA, European aviation authorities, aviation industry as well as international partners, ICAO and FAA. Currently, more than 150 civilian and military aviation organizations participates to the ESSI.

ESSI comprises the following working groups:
- European Aviation Safety Team (ECAST)
- European Helicopter Safety Team (EHEST)
- European Aviation Safety Team (EGAST)

ESSI contributes to the development and implementation of the European Aviation Safety plan (EASp), through the development of several documents which address some of the areas included in EASp, like safety management and the promotion of safety in commercial air transport operations with fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and general aviation.
